What Does ASTM F1697-18 Mean?

ASTM F1697-18 is the standard specification for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) profile strip for machine spiral-wound liner pipe rehabilitation of existing sewers and conduits. Spiral wound liners are used in the rehabilitation of gravity-based pipelines such as sanitary sewer, storm sewers, and conduits for both circular and non-circular dimensions.

Trenchless rehabilitation of sewer using liners is becoming popular because they are easy to install and do not require the digging of road surface.

Trenchlesspedia Explains ASTM F1697-18

The specification for this method covers requirements and test methods for different factors such as materials, dimensions, workmanship, stiffness factor, and extrusion quality for machine-made field-fabricated spiral wound liners.

The spirally wound liner is installed by expanding it until it presses against the interior surface of the host pipe or is inserted as a fixed diameter and the annular space is grouted. ASTM F1697-18 is applicable only for extruded profile strips made from specified materials.
