What Does Rig Up Package Mean?

A rig up package is defined as the package of individual components of a rig which are taken to the project site and assembled. To make the rig ready for use, the equipment must be moved to the desired location and connected to power sources and piping systems. Depending on the size of the rig, it may have to be set up with trucks, cranes or forklifts.

Trenchlesspedia Explains Rig Up Package

The rig up package will typically consist of AC draw works, a rotary drive, top drive, mud pumps, pit system, derrick, sub structure, walking system, power system, and support equipment. The rigging up process consists of setting up the substructure, setting up the rig floor and the derrick or mast, installing guard rails and hand rails, installing power systems, installing auxiliary equipment and inspecting the rig. Once the rig has been installed, the drilling operation can begin. After completion, the entire rig assembly can be dismantled and packed up as a complete rig up package. Rig up packages make it easier to transport heavy machinery to different locations, especially in places where it is not possible to carry a fully functional rig.
