What Does
Make Up Mean?
A make up, in the context of trenchless technology, is a process defined as connecting tools, drill pipes, collars, joints, tubing and pipeline by connecting the threaded connections at the ends of the tools. The joints must be correctly identified and properly torqued to to ensure the tool string is secure and undamaged.
Trenchlesspedia Explains Make Up
Making up the drill string is an essential part of setting up the drilling process. Part of a make up occurs before drilling operations commence and it continues as the work progresses. As components are changed, or when new components such as additional drill pipe are added to the string, proper make up ensures the project continues. Because make up continues without a full stop of operations, it’s a hazardous operation with a potential for injuries to occur from falling pipe or by coming into direct contact with drilling fluid.
