Trenchlesspedia Explains Metering Facility

According to the January 2009 issue of the Pipeline & Gas Journal, metering facilities (which they call metering stations) provide continuous metrics of natural gas flow, including:

  • Upper calorific value

  • Concentration of sulphur compounds

  • Hydrocarbon dew point

  • Water dew points

  • Fiscal effects of gas volume and flow

The data that metering facilities collect is used to regulate pressure and meter the gas to users. Equipment such as filters, heaters, pressure reducers, and regulators are built into the metering facilities to accomplish these purposes.
