What Does Pipeline Integrity Mean?

Pipeline integrity is the state of pipelines that are without damage or defect. The maintenance of pipeline integrity is a key aim of trenchless construction. Various trenchless rehabilitation methods are available to trenchless operators to ensure the integrity of underground pipes.

Trenchlesspedia Explains Pipeline Integrity

Underground pipes are vulnerable to many different types of damage or other deficiencies. Infiltration, for example, can be caused by weakness at pipe joints or internal corrosion. The integrity of a pipe may depend on the quality of manufacture, the strength of the piping material, or the environment surrounding the pipe.

Monitoring and regular inspection of pipes is key to maintaining pipeline integrity. Inspection tools such as CCTV or Lidar can reveal leaks or cracks in the internal wall of a pipe. Once defects are identified, trenchless rehabilitation techniques such as sliplining, grouting, cured-in-place pipe (CIPP), and mechanical spot repair can be effective in fixing pipe problems.
