Sheet Pile Shoring

Published: December 4, 2021 | Last updated: July 5, 2023

What Does Sheet Pile Shoring Mean?

Sheet pile shoring provides support for excavated wall surfaces through the stiffness provided by the continuous vertical sheets and passive resistance from the ground. This helps provide effective retention for both earth and water. The sheet piles have interlocking edges, so that they can be connected to each other.

Sheet piling is commonly used because of its advantages over other materials. It is light weight, has high resistance to driving stresses, and is reusable and sturdy.

Trenchlesspedia Explains Sheet Pile Shoring

Sheet pile shoring is done by driving prefabricated sections of sheet pile into the ground. If ground conditions allow, the sheet piles can be vibrated into the ground instead of hammering them down. In the sheet pile shoring method, sheet piles are inserted into the ground before the excavation begins.

Trenchless construction methods do not require trenching, but require an entry pit to install the rig and launch the installation, as well as an exit pit to retrieve the pipeline on the other side. These pits need to be secured to prevent the excavated sides from collapsing.
