What Does Exit Side Mean?

The exit side is the end of the bore farthest from the drilling rig or auger. It is the end of the bore. In horizontal directional drilling, entry and exit points of the bore are positioned in such a way as to keep disruption of the surrounding area as slight as possible. The pilot bore will emerge at the exit side when completed.

Trenchlesspedia Explains Exit Side

The exit side of a bore is the end of the bore from which the bit or auger exits the ground on its first pass along the design pathway. Reclaimers are stationed at the exit side to reclaim drilling fluids. Pipes, conduits and cables are assembled into a continuous unit on the exit side of the bore and are pulled from the bore at the exit side during both installation and replacement. On the exit side, the bore opening is characterized by delaminatiion around the bore.
