Jacking Station

Published: June 19, 2017 | Last updated: July 5, 2023

What Does Jacking Station Mean?

A jacking station, or intermediate jacking station, is a steel cylinder filled with hydraulic jacks which can be installed between pipe segments in a microtunneling boring operation. The jacking station provides jacking force within the installation pipe so that the load on the first casing at the entrance pit is not excessive. Jacking stations enable microtunneling boring operations to continue over long distances.

Trenchlesspedia Explains Jacking Station

As a microtunneling boring operation progresses through the ground, the force required to overcome the friction of the existing casings in the bore grows. Eventually. if the bore becomes too long, the force required on the first casing at the entrance pit may be excessive and damage the casing or may expose slight differences in alignment between casings. A pipe jacking station transfers some of the force required further down the pipe so that the force is disbursed and no single casing endures excessive pressure.
