What Does
Target Pipe Mean?
The target pipe, as it relates to trenchless construction, is a generic term used to indicate the existing pipe to be repaired, replaced, demolished or maintained. This term does not make reference to any particular type of pipe or material and is simply used as a means of identification during trenchless projects.
Trenchlesspedia Explains Target Pipe
Since trenchless construction involves little to no excavation around the target pipe, identifying the location of the pipe is of utmost importance and usually one of the first steps taken before any trenchless work commences. This usually involves a locating device such as a ground penetrating radar (GPR) which sends signals through the soil which are then reflected back to a receiver.
Once the target pipe has been identified and the defects have been ascertained, the type of trenchless rehabilitation required can be determined.
